Historical Society in Baltimore, MD is presenting a Family
History Workshop covering four topics: Getting Started;
Census, Church & Vital Records; Land, Court & Probate
Records; and Immigration & Naturalization Records.
Today’s workshop is “Land, Court & Probate Records.”
Join noted author and genealogist Robert Barnes for this
new series of workshops designed to introduce new
family historians to techniques and allow seasoned
researchers to find new resources. Each session will
include continental breakfast and box lunch. Each
session is $50/ MDHS Member, $65/ non-members, or
you may purchase the series for $175/ MDHS members
and $200/ non-members. Each session also includes a
chance to ask questions of our experts and a chance to
visit the MDHS Museum and Library during breaks. All
sessions will include information on both print and online

Sunday- Friday 13-18 June. The Samford Institute of
Genealogy and Historical Research (IGHR) in
Birmingham, AL provides an educational forum for the
discovery, critical evaluation, and use of genealogical
sources and methodology through a week of intensive
study led by nationally prominent genealogical educators.
Students may choose one of the offered courses that
range from a course for beginners to courses on
specialized topics. Topics to be covered include
Techniques and Technology; Intermediate Genealogy
and Historical Studies; Research in the South; Advanced
Methodology and Evidence Analysis; Writing and
Publishing for Genealogists; Advanced Library Research:
Law Libraries & Government Documents; Virginia's Land
and Military Conflicts & Their Effect on Migration;
Researching African-American ancestors: Slave &
Reconstruction Era Records; U.S. Military Records; and
Scottish Genealogical research. Registration begins in
January 2010. Each course has a limit of 25 individuals
and some of the courses are already full. Additional

Sunday - 27 June 12:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Baltimore
County Genealogical Society (BCGS) third floor of the
Parkville Senior Center at 8601 Harford Road (at the
intersection of Harford Road and Hiss Avenue) in
Baltimore, Maryland. Everyone is invited to fully utilize all
of the research assets of our Library from 12:00 Noon
until 4:00 PM. We currently have more than 2,500
volumes including Family Histories, Genealogies,
volumes on Baltimore City, Baltimore and the other
counties of Maryland, plus numerous other states and
foreign countries. Also, the Vertical File collection of bible records, family group sheets, tax lists, land & cemetery records, plus our Microfilm and CD collections.

Sunday - Friday 11-16 July. The National Institute on
Genealogical Research will hold its annual conference in
Washington, DC at the National Archives. Tuition ranges
from $350/$400. A $500 scholarship is
available from both the NIGR Alumni Association and the
American Society of Genealogist. Additional
